Job Description

Are you a University of Alaska student seeking meaningful employment and hands-on learning experience? Consider applying to the Student Assistant pool at the International Arctic Research Center (IARC).

IARC is a research-focused organization at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and multiple departments hire from this pool throughout the academic year. Student assistant roles vary by department and support a wide range of research, administrative, and outreach activities. These positions provide opportunities to build practical skills in a professional research environment while contributing to Arctic research initiatives.

To thrive in this role, student assistants should demonstrate a high level of professionalism and strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must be comfortable engaging with diverse audiences and possess excellent interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment is essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable, along with moderate to strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also important for success in this role.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must be enrolled as an UA student taking a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in good standing or a newly enrolled student.

Position Details:

Student positions are located on the Troth Yeddha' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska, part-time when school is in session, non-exempt (hourly) student assistant positions, term-funded (*additional hours may be available during the summer or semester breaks). Students will be placed on the  UA Student Salary Schedule the compensation step for student positions may be determined based on the specific duties, required qualifications, and level of responsibility associated with the role.

This is a pooled position and applications are reviewed as needed. The position closes on June 30, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Alaska Standard Time.
