The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Public Health Specialist (PHS) 2 will serve as a field coordinator for the Capital District Regional Office, and will be responsible for providing oversight of local health department activities in the implementation of all water supply related programs and working directly with hospitals and nursing homes on legionella control at their facilities. The incumbent will respond to public water supply emergencies, waterborne outbreaks, conduct sanitary survey field trainings and assessments, perform and interpret Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) data queries, and assists with SDWIS data entry throughout the region. The PHS 2 will aid the local health departments by serving as technical resource; coordinate and provide trainings; conduct quarterly reviews; and ensuring consistent delivery of environmental health programs. The region has over 4,200 public water supplies within 7 local health departments and 4 state district offices and covers 18 counties in New York State.

This includes experience with performing sanitary surveys, crafting sanitary survey letters, the water operator certification program, collecting water samples, conducting water supply trainings, familiarity with Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS) data entry, SDWIS error reports, and SDWIS data queries. The preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, excellent decision-making capabilities, and strong writing/ editing skills.
