The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of medications throughout the hospital. Working under the direct supervision of a staff pharmacist or pharmacy supervisor, this role supports pharmaceutical care across a diverse patient population—including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. The Pharmacy Technician helps uphold HSS’s unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and compassionate patient care. Key Responsibilities: Medication Preparation & Distribution Accurately fill and label routine medication orders, unit doses, and prepackaged pharmaceuticals under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Ensure timely delivery of medications to perioperative and inpatient units, supporting continuity of care. Assist in compounding, labeling, and preparing sterile and non-sterile products as required, following aseptic technique and institutional standards. Maintain compliance with hospital and regulatory policies governing medication storage, handling, and documentation. Inventory & Supply Management: Monitor stock levels in assigned areas (unit-dose, IV admixture, outpatient, and floor stock). Rotate inventory to ensure freshness and reduce waste; remove expired or damaged items promptly. Support purchasing and inventory reconciliation to maintain adequate supply levels across all pharmacy areas. Maintain clean, organized, and compliant workspaces in alignment with HSS standards of excellence. Teamwork & Collaboration: Work closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless medication support and delivery. Participate in interdisciplinary initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, safety, and patient outcomes. Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and respect in every interaction—reflecting HSS’s culture of teamwork and compassion. Patient-Centered Focus Contribute to the overall safety and well-being of patients by adhering to quality assurance procedures. Qualifications & Requirements: Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) required. Minimum of one (1) year of prior hospital pharmacy experience required. High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated proficiency in supply management and basic arithmetic. Strong commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
