Systems Engineer Administrator

The Systems Engineer Admin reports to the Senior Director of Infrastructure and Security. The Systems Engineer Admin is responsible for analyzing, installing, configuring and maintaining the server infrastructure, application components and services for the University. The Systems Engineer Admin ensures reliable and secure operation of networked systems and services in order to provide maximum performance and availcapability for students, faculty, and staff. This is a full-time hybrid function with a minimum of two required days at Excelsior's home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked in the house.

tasks and Responsibilities: 

»Install, configure, and maintain the University’s Windows server and Vmware virtualization environments, including connected network and storage components.

»Administer the University’s Active Directory environment.

»Administer the University’s Office 365 tenant space, including Teams and OneDrive; administer the University’s Exchange Online environment, including mobile device support and mail flow.

»Provide second and third tier support by collaborating with the Help Desk and Technical Support teams.

»Assist the Desktop Engineer regarding the creation of Active Directory Group Policies, DHCP, and enterprise printing.

»Assist the Telecommunications Engineer regarding the integration of the university’s phone system with Windows/Office365/Active Directory.

»Provide system management to ensure high system security, availcapability, relicapability, and optimal operation of both internal and hosted services.

»Provide constant monitoring of systems; proactively respond to and correct problems related to network systems hardware and software as needed.

»Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of University student virtual lab environments.

»Assist in maintaining and enhancing disaster-recovery strategies for systems.

»Support the transition of networking services to a hybrid cloud computing environment by developing cloud suitcapability assessments and annual cloud computing plans for networked services.

»Assist in the monitoring and deployment of onsite security systems and phone systems.

»Attend conferences and training courses as needed.

Qualifications required 

»B.S. in Computer Science or related degree or an equivalent combination of education/practice that provides the required expertise, expertise, and abilities.

»Five years’ practice installing and supporting network systems, applications and components.

»Preferred expertise with implementing, configuring and maintaining the following networking components:
o VMWare
o Active Directory
o Windows Server OS
o Office 365
o Azure and/or Amazon cloud systems

»Industry certifications preferred.

»Strong interpersonal expertise with a desire to work in a team environment.
