General Counsel / In-House Counsel Attorney (On-Site - Southern IN)


Latitude is seeking a General Counsel / In-House Counsel attorney for a high-impact leadership opportunity with a privately held company in a dynamic and essential industry. This role is ideal for a business-minded lawyer who is excited to step into a succession-track position, work closely with executive leadership, and ultimately lead and build a legal department.


Basic Requirements for the General Counsel / In-House Counsel Attorney:

  • 8+ years of experience practicing as an attorney (combination of law firm and in-house experience strongly preferred)
  • Broad-based experience across contracts, employment law, governance, compliance, and general corporate matters
  • Experience advising senior leadership and business stakeholders on risk and strategy
  • Strong familiarity with corporate governance (experience with family-owned or closely held companies is a plus)
  • Experience managing outside counsel and legal budgets
  • Ability to operate independently in a lean legal environment and provide practical, business-oriented advice
  • Excellent academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Excellent analytical, written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (or eligible for in-house registration)
  • Outstanding professional references


Position Details of the General Counsel / In-House Counsel Attorney:


  • Type of role:
    Direct Hire (Permanent In-House)
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Location: On-Site, with potential for some WFH flexibility (e.g., one day) for the right candidate
  • Geography: Southern Indiana region (commutable from Indianapolis, Louisville, or Cincinnati)


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and counsel to the CEO and executive leadership team
  • Oversee a wide range of legal matters, including commercial contracts, employment law, compliance, governance, environmental, and regulatory issues
  • Lead and evolve governance frameworks, particularly in connection with a multi-generational business transition
  • Manage and strategically deploy outside counsel across specialized areas
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide proactive, solutions-oriented legal guidance aligned with business objectives
  • Play a key role in shaping and building the company’s legal function over time

Compensation:


Pay: The annualized compensation for this position is expected to range from $160,000 to $210,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.
