Position Purpose

The position of Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness of all PATCO facilities maintained by the Track & Facilities Department. These include but are not limited to all station facilities (platforms concourses lobbies and entrance areas) lavatory facilities locker room facilities lunch room facilities office areas and other miscellaneous facilities.

The Authority will adhere to all applicable laws and regulations in assessing an employees ability to carry out or otherwise meet the job requirements set forth herein in a satisfactory manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs all cleaning functions for walking surfaces and stairways (sweeping vacuuming scrubbing mopping stain/gum removal stripping/waxing tile shampooing carpets); for vertical horizontal and overhead surfaces and fixtures (scrubbing washing wiping dusting polishing glass cleaning graffiti removal); for trash collection and disposal (mixed and recyclable trash); and including but not limited to scrubbing and sanitizing all bathroom facilities and cleanup / disposal of infectious waste and/or bio-hazard
2. Must be able to work a variety of schedules including evening nights and/or weekend work and holidays as needed.
3. May be required to drive motor vehicle for trash pick-up/disposal and for transporting custodial equipment.
4. Performs snow shoveling/pushing function for all facilities of PATCO as necessary.
5. Assists in maintaining a safe and secure work environment by participating in required training recognizing and reporting hazards and suspicious activity and using all required personal protective equipment.
6. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to all provisions of the DRPA/PATCOS Substance Abuse Testing and Control Policy including random drug testing and periodic physical testing requirements.

Education and/or Experience

Required:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience in performing custodial activities in industrial buildings office buildings food service industry buildings hospital buildings and/or other related facilities. This includes but will not be limited to performing custodial activities using industrial cleaning machines such as floor scrubbers floor buffers industrial vacuums high pressure hot water washers and other similar machines.
• Must be able to pass a respirator fit test.
• Must have a working knowledge for safe use of industrial cleaning products and equipment.

Desired:

• Valid Drivers License in the state of residence without violation for last 3 years.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required sit stand walk lift climb bend stoop crawl ascend/descend stairs steps and ladders etc. Individuals in this position require a full range of physical motion and the ability to lift heavy loads i.e. trash bags and cleaning machines up to 75 pounds (75 pounds in a single person lift or 150 pounds in a two person lift). Individual must be able to climb up and down from the ends of a transit car with a step height of as much as three (3) feet and open the end doors while supporting oneself with a free hand. The individual must also be able to lift leg(s) a height of twenty-four (24) inches to clear the third rail by stepping over same. The individual must have normal day and night time vision corrected or uncorrected lack of color blindness and have normal hearing corrected or uncorrected. Must be able to perform all position functions. Must be able to physically operate all job related equipment.

This position requires the incumbent to work both indoors and outdoors in all types of lighting and weather conditions including but not limited to heat sun rain snow and ice. Protective clothing eye protection hearing protection (when appropriate and whereas the wearing of such protection does not pose a safety risk to the employee during the performance of the essential job functions) dust masks rubber gloves and respirators are provided to protect against the elements such as chemical splashing airborne debris toxic fumes sustained loud or high pitched noises; and various diseases related to blood borne pathogens associated with blood fecal matter urine vomit and other bio-hazards that may be encountered. The duties of this position must be performed along active railroad tracks on station platforms or occasionally accessing the track area. Incumbent must be constantly aware of the hazards that cause electric shock and electrical flash burns.
