Job Summary:

The Radiology / Cardiology Cath Lab Technician is responsible for supporting diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. This role involves assisting with patient care during procedures such as cardiac stent placement, diagnostic catheterizations, and percutaneous coronary interventions. The technician will administer medications, manage IV therapy, monitor patient vitals and sedation, and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure patient safety and procedural efficiency. Strong knowledge of cardiac monitoring, emergency protocols, and catheterization lab equipment is essential. A minimum of 2 years' experience in a cardiac cath lab setting is required.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures including stent placement, IABP placement/removal, and left/right heart catheterizations.
• Administer medications such as antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, emergency drugs, IV vasopressors, and thrombolytics under supervision.
• Manage IV therapy including blood product administration, IV infusion pumps, and starting IVs.
• Perform cardiac monitoring including 12 Lead EKG and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias.
• Monitor procedural sedation and reversal agents, utilizing Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale and malignant hyperthermia protocols.
• Ensure infection prevention and isolation precautions are followed in the cath lab.
• Perform sheath removal and post-procedural monitoring of patients.
• Operate specialized cath lab equipment such as GE Mac Lab system, Impella, Penumbra, EKOS, and others.
• Document procedures and patient data accurately using electronic health record systems like Epic.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide safe, efficient patient care.
• Float to other areas as needed and respond to call requirements.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization lab settings.
• Current ACLS and BLS certification.
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, including 12 Lead EKG and dysrhythmia management.
• Knowledge of medication administration relevant to cath lab procedures.
• Experience with IV therapy including blood product administration and IV infusion pumps.
• Strong understanding of infection control and isolation precautions.
• Ability to monitor procedural sedation and manage emergency situations.
• Familiarity with cath lab equipment and documentation systems such as Epic and Pyxis.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with advanced procedures such as ASD closures, cardiac implant closure devices, Impella insertion, rotablader atherectomy, and TAVI/TAVR.
• Knowledge of vascular studies and procedures including angioplasty and dialysis graft interventions.
• Skills in managing central lines, implanted ports, and PICC lines.
• Familiarity with End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, hypothermia protocols, and radiation/laser safety.
• Experience with vascular closure systems and topical hemostasis products.
• Competence in ventilator monitoring and use of external compression devices.

Special Considerations:

• Call required one day per week and every fifth weekend.
• Floating to other units may be necessary as needed.
• Occasional late shifts approximately 4-5 days per month, rarely past 17:00.
• No weekend shifts outside of call requirements.
• Work environment includes high-acuity cardiovascular patients with a variety of complex diagnoses.

Scheduling:

• Regular schedule of Monday through Friday, 5 days per week.
• Day shift hours from 06:45 to 15:15.
• Shift assignments may include occasional late days and on-call rotations as specified.
