The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Bridge Maintenance, has a full-time vacancy for a Bridge Construction Foreman.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for implementing and scheduling of all bridge maintenance operations in a designated area. Supervises a crew in construction and repair projects.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in general bridge construction, bridge maintenance, or related field, with at least two years in a position that involved supervising groups in bridge construction and maintenance.
License/Certification: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License A or B (CDL-A or CDL-B) with tank endorsement and air brakes.
Other Requirements:
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
Must receive a negative result on a pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements.
Must have ability to climb and work from scaffolds high above the ground or water.
Must be willing to work throughout the State and during emergencies for long hours, 7 days a week.
Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in 'trainee status' for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of modern methods used in bridge construction and bridge maintenance. Skill in use of bridge construction tools and equipment. Ability to place, layout and supervise workers engaged in bridge work. Ability to work out-of-doors for long periods under varying climatic conditions. Ability to climb and work from scaffolds high above ground. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with the motoring public as well as landowners along the highway right-of-way and employees. Demonstrated agility, mechanical ability, resourcefulness, initiative and sound judgment. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority.
After-Hire Requirements:
Candidates possessing a valid Operators or CDL-B license must obtain the CDL-A license within 1 year of hire.
Offers of employment are conditional upon the individual obtaining a Commercial Driver's License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by the State of New Hampshire.
